For GHMC election,30,000 police deployed for smooth elections. 1,004 booths being identified as ‘hypersensitive’

Hyderabad: About 30,000 police are being deployed to ensure that the GHMC elections in December go smoothly. This includes police personnel from various departments of Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda Commissionerates in the city, TSSP, Armed Reserve, and additional contingents from other divisions of Telangana Police.

In addition, 257 polling stations in 73 places have been identified as ‘critical’ and 1,004 polling stations in 308 places have been identified as ‘hypersensitive’. Taking note of the incidents at these polling stations and other aspects of security, these polling stations have been divided into different categories, a senior police officer said

special checkpost and police checkpoints are being set up in sensitive areas. Police have also stepped up patrols in the area. Static surveillance teams, striking forces, and special teams have also been deployed.

The code of conduct for the elections has already been enacted and security forces have been sent back to the offices where candidates will file nominations. Additional troops will be deployed to monitor polling booths, counting centers, and strong rooms where ballot boxes will be kept until the day of counting.

City Police Commissioner, Anjani Kumar, in a notification issued on Wednesday, asked all licensed firearms holders to send their weapons to their respective police stations or send the arms dealers before November 19. Also, processions and rallies in the city which are not allowed in advance are prohibited. City police have also expedited the execution of pending non-bailable warrants and banned people suspected of causing trouble during the election.
