Re-voting for Old Malakpet ward is underway

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Election Commission (SEC) has cancelled voting for Old Malakpet Ward (No.26) at GHMC and scheduled voting again for today, with an incorrect election symbol printed against the CPI candidate’s name.

Re-polling for the Old Malakpet ward started at 69 centers at 7 am. It will continue till 6 pm. For the election, 276 officers are on duty.

On Tuesday, the state Election Commission decided to re-run the polls after Communist Party of India (CPI) candidate Firdous Fatima complained that the Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M) symbol Hammer, sickle and star are hidden. The CPI symbol ‘ears of corn & sickle’ was missing.

GHMC Commissioner and Election Authority DS Lokesh Kumar replaced the Returning Officer for re-polling. Returning Officer Sandhyarani has been relieved of her duties and has been replaced by Shailaja.

In Tuesday’s election, 3,450 people voted. Now, they will apply ink on their left middle finger instead of their left index finger.In view of the re polling, educational, government and private offices and businesses have been declared closed. 54,502 voters will exercise their right to vote.

In the Old Malakpet constituency, Renuka -BJP, Juveria Fatima -MIM, Pagilla Shalini -TRS, Firdaus Fatima -CPI, B .Veeramani -Congress and M Kavitha (Independent) are in the fray.
