Hyderabad: on Wednesday, Rachakonda Cybercrime Police on arrested a person from Andhra Pradesh for spreading fake messages on the covid-19 epidemic on WhatsApp.
Police said Shaik Sadiq Basha 29years old, an electrician from Adoni, Kurnool, received two voice messages from an unknown number on his mobile phone on Sunday.
The messages were about the epidemic and intended to trigger panic, with police adding that Basha immediately sent them to his friends, relatives and other contacts via WhatsApp, without checking the veracity of the messages.
Following a complaint, he was lodged under sections of the National Disaster Management Act and tracked down his location, after which he was arrested. Police have advised citizens not to forward panic messages, as they can cause disturbances.
