Muslims allege that ‘anti-social’ elements have threatened them to stop offering azaan on loudspeakers

Hyderabad: Members of the Muslim community of the city’s Chadarghat area have alleged that some “anti-social” elements are threatening them to prevent a recurrence of the azaan on loudspeaker.

Committee members of Masjid-e-Nizami, located at the Victoria playground in Chadarghat, said that an unknown group had started objecting to the text of Azaan in the mosque’s public address systems (PAS) for the last four months.

The imam of the mosque said police officers from Sultan Bazar police station intervened and asked to reduce the volume of the loudspeaker.

“Despite the small volume, these anti-social elements have threatened us once again,” the imam claimed.

Social activist Amjadullah Khan has now brought the matter to the notice of Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar and asked him to look into the matter and resolve it amicably.

In addition to reciting the call to prayer five times a day, some very local announcements are made such as information about someone’s death or missing children in the area, And warning during Ramadan and Iftar.

Earlier this month, Shiv Sena had asked the Center to take steps to curb the use of loudspeakers in mosques “to prevent noise pollution”.
