Former MIM leader’s firing incident in Adilabad: injured man died in NIMS

Hyderabad: A man who was injured in the firing by a leader of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) in Telangana’s Adilabad town on December 18, succumbed on Saturday, police said.

Syed Zameer- 55, a former councilor of Adilabad Municipality, was among the three persons who were injured in a firing and knife attack by Farooq Ahmed, president of MIM Adilabad District Unit and former deputy chairman of Adilabad Municipality. Between clashes in two groups.

Zameer was shot in the abdomen and was shifted to Hyderabad as his condition was critical. The other two – Syed Mannan and Syed Mohtasham – who suffered injuries to their limbs, were treated at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Adilabad.

Earlier, Farooq Ahmed was charged under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 27/30 of the Indian Arms Act. Adilabad Police Special Duty (OSD) Officer Rajesh Chandra said, “We will now change their provisions and file a murder case against him under section 302 of the IPC.”

Farooq Ahmed is currently in a 14-day judicial remand.

The incident took place in the Thatiguda Colony in Adilabad city on December 18, when two groups of people clashed. While there was an old rivalry between the two groups, the immediate excitement was the fight between two youngsters in a cricket match. The AIMIM leader participated and set the group of people on fire.

The day after the incident, AIMIM not only expelled Ahmed from the party, but also dissolved the party unit in Adilabad.
