2,351 drunken driving cases were reported by the Cyberabad Traffic Police in December.

Hyderabad: Following the recession during the covid-19 epidemic, the Cyberabad Traffic Police has stepped up the investigation of drunk driving and apprehended 2,351 people in December. Police said that tests are being carried out following all the safety precautions in view of the current covid-19 situation.

Traffic police have started conducting checks during night and evening hours at various junctions and accident prone areas in Madhapur, Balanagar and Shamshabad areas.

During this operation, police found many people between the ages of 21 and 30 driving a vehicle after consuming alcohol. “Cases are registered against people caught during checking and vehicles are seized. In case of accidents, all the occupants of the vehicle are booked in the case, ”said SM Vijay Kumar, DCP (Traffic) Cyberabad.

The highest number of persons caught were those who were driving two-wheelers with a total of 1,763 cases booked for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Traffic police said the driving licenses of those caught during the checking were confiscated and a suspension of three months for first-time offenders and later sent permanently to regional transport officials for those caught.

Police said that employers, educational institutions, government departments are being informed about their employees / wards being involved in such dangerous work.

The police appealed to the general public not to resort to any vehicle under the influence of alcohol. In any event after consuming alcohol they should make alternate arrangements for their journey.

Rachakonda traffic police told people not to drive under the influence of alcohol and said that special drunk driving checks are being done to prevent dangerous, fast and careless driving

Mohammad Tajuddin Ahmed, DCP (Traffic) Rachakonda said in view of the New Year celebration on 31 December, people were advised not to drive after consuming alcohol as it could threaten their lives and other road users. . “We will conduct investigations in all important areas and accident prone areas on the New Year. If someone is caught, a case will be registered and the vehicle will be detained, ”he warned

The traffic police booked 3,287 drunk driving cases in the year 2020 and 33 licenses of those convicted for the offences were suspended during the year.

Mohammad Tajuddin Ahmed, DCP (Traffic) Rachkonda said that all the precautionary measures were carried out at various places in Rachkonda, and all precautionary measures were taken in view of the covid epidemic.

During the month of December, 260 cases were registered by the traffic police. Officials said the driving license of drunk driving motorists was confiscated and sent to the transport department for further action.
