Hyderabad decides to construct bridge to save the city from flood

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had planed to build 8-gates bridge near the pulpit of Hussain Nagar to release excess water to save the city from floods.

The design of the project has been prepared and submitted to the Department of Municipal Administration. Float tenders are underway soon.

According to experts, installing a gate at Hussain Nagar will keep the city safe from floods.

Floods and drainage water of kukatpally, Pikkat, Banjara Hills and Malkapur canals flow directly into Hussain Nagar. The 0.9 tmc reservoir falls on the shore and creates flood-like conditions in many low-lying areas, hurting thousands of people.

Currently, Hussainsagar does not have a water release gate. When the reservoir is full, the excess water drains on its own and creates flood-like conditions in many parts of the city.

A committee has been constituted under the Department of Water Resources Engineer-in-Chief C. Muralidhar to take a comprehensive look at the flood and Hussainsagar structure in the city. The committee will submit a report to the government.

A bridge with 8 flood gates is proposed to be built near the present bridgepit. A design has been designed to release 38.560 cusecs of water in low-lying areas. A copy of the design has been submitted to the Municipal Administration Department.

Experts claim that if the gates are installed and water is released in low-lying areas, it can save many areas of the city. Experts also claim that the release of 38.560 cusecs of water will not pose any threat to the existing drains. nallas can be repaired if needed. Tenders will soon be called for the construction of the bridge and gate. In the event that work for the construction of the gate starts, traffic on the tank band can be stopped.
