Muslim organizations protest against Wasim Rizvi in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Various Muslim organizations on Tuesday organized a rally to protest against former Uttar Pradesh Shia Central Waqf Board chairman Wasim Rizvi on his petition filed in the Supreme Court in which he has demanded the removal of 26 verses from the Quran.

A “Tahafuz-e-Quran and Shia Sunni Ittehad” rally was organized at Maidan-e-Ghadeer Darul-Shifa in the state capital to condemn the petition filed by Rizvi. The rally was attended by religious leaders from both Shia and Sunni communities.
Both Shia and Sunni religious leaders have condemned “Wasim Rizvi’s attack on the sanctity of the Quran” and said “it will not be tolerated and we will never support such statements”.

Earlier in the day, the National Minorities Commission (NCM) issued notice to Rizvi that he proceeded with a petition to the apex court seeking the removal of verses from the Quran, claiming that he promotes violence.
The commission has asked Rizvi to withdraw his remarks and seek an unconditional apology within three weeks, failing which the hearing and direct officials will be asked to take appropriate legal action against Rizvi.

The NCM observed that the Commission is of the view that the remarks made by Rizvi appear to be a “thought out conspiracy” to spoil the communal harmony of the country.

The Commission took cognizance of the case following complaints received from four persons – Abdul Majeed Nizami, Ali Raza Zaidi, Mohammad Faizan Chaudhary and Maulana Syed Nazar Abbas.
