Tight security for Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly by-election in Telangana on 17 April

Hyderabad: A top police officer said on Friday that 4,000 police personnel, including central forces, are being deployed for the Nagarjuna Sagar by-poll to be held on saturday.

A V Ranganath, Superintendent of Police, Nalgonda said that total 346 polling stations, police identified 108 as Critical.

We expect a smooth turnout tomorrow (April 17) and no problems will be anticipated,” the official said.

He said that voting will be held from 7 am to 7 pm
The by-poll was necessitated for the constituency due to the death of TRS legislator Nomula Narasimhaiah, who died last December.
The ruling TRS nominated Narasimha’s son, Nomula Bhagat, while the BJP put P. Ravi Kumar candidate for the by-poll.

The Congress has fielded senior leader K Jana Reddy, who served as the Leader of the Opposition in the previous assembly.

Reddy lost from the same constituency in the 2018 assembly elections.

The Nagarjuna Sagar by-Pol result will be an acid test for the ruling TRS, resurgent BJP and Congress with all three keen to prove their might as a win or defeat may script the strategy to be adopted by them for the Assembly polls in 2023
Although candidates from other parties and independents are in the fray for the assembly constituency, the contest will be mainly between the three parties.

After the election schedule was announced, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao addressed a public meeting in the constituency on 14 April.
