Covid second wave may last for three months more: Experts

Hyderabad: The tidal wave of Covid-19 infection across the country including Telangana, during the second wave of epidemic, may take at least three months by the end of June, to come down to a level where all section resume normal life and population feels safe to do, researchers, data scientists and senior public health officials believe.

People should be prepared for the long battle against the epidemic, at least until the end of June, with public health officials and senior doctors in Hyderabad monitoring the current trend of infection.
“The next three months are important for us. I urge the public that unless it is unavoidable. It is important to wear masks, maintain hand hygiene and avoid mass gatherings at any cost.
“Even though the peak has reached in May, cases and deaths will take some time, so that we can be confident to resume normal life. We can only do this if there is a high-alert public health system in action that includes genomic sequencing.with strict regional lockdowns, masked mandates, restrictions on large ceremonies, curbs on inter-state mobility and increased immunizations, we can try to bring these estimates down.A monumental work is ahead of us. Ignoring the signs of this surge, huge mistakes have been made, ”Dr. Bhramar Mukherjee, professor of epidemiology, School of Public Health, University of Michigan, said on Twitter.

In worst-case estimates, the IHME stated that daily deaths may increase till June and continue slowly at the end of July or the first week of August.

For the whole of India, IHME estimates state that daily deaths will peak by mid-May and begin to decrease gradually and reach a low in July or the latest by the first week of August.
