Covid19 National Telangana

A mismatch in intention and implementation

Hyderabad: The state government had recently submitted in the High Court that the number of Corona cases had come down due to the imposition of night curfew.

But the ground reality seems to be something else. Life has not come to a stand still since the announcement of the night curfew. Although traffic has declined to some extent, especially towards the Old City areas, traffic remains heavy at many places.

Signals continued to work from 9 pm onwards. It has also been reported that some bikers were doing stunts in areas like Saidabad, Malakpet and Chanchalguda.

The kind of seriousness that was shown during the first wave of the epidemic is missing by both citizens and the administration.
However the state government has announced that it will create 63 micro-containment zones under the GHMC limits and said that apartments, colonies, gated communities with clusters are classified as micro-containmental zones.

The GHMC said that their role would be limited to spraying sodium hypochlorite solution and ensuring cleanliness in the area.

But it has been found that many people in many such areas in Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills assembly constituencies were not even aware that their areas were listed as containmental zones.

They said that last year there was barricades and restrictions on the movement of people, but now only a few sanitary workers are seen spraying hypochlorite solution in the morning.

They said that people with all types of symptoms were moving freely.

Locals said that no doctors had visited their areas. There is nothing like tracing or testing, no officer including the police came to create awareness about the Covid-19 restrictions.

Some area it was seen that a large number of people continued to show sheer carelessness and were seen walking freely without wearing masks.

Those who had masks did not wear it properly. There is no presence from the police or administration to enforce the rule of wearing masks or maintaining physical distance. Asking some of them said, “It is so hot we unable to wear it.”

Even the shopkeepers were not insisting that customers wear masks or maintain social distance. “Last year, about 90% of people were wearing masks. Hardly anyone has wearing a mask this time,” said a senior citizen in Yellareddyguda.
