30 flights from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport were cancelled

Hyderabad: At least 30 flights from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport were cancelled on Friday for various reasons, including a rising covid-19 and restrictions imposed by other states.

Official sources confirmed that an unusually high number of cancellations had occurred, stating that at least 30 flights, including both arrivals and departures from RGIA, were cancelled by 9pm, with the number go up by midnight on Friday.

These were mainly flights to Delhi, Chennai, Pune and Bengalore, the source said, one of the reasons for this was the restruction imposed by the Delhi government on people reaching the national capital from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, which made it mandatory for 14 days of quarantine.

The Delhi government even said that people who have been taken both doses or whose negative RT-PCR test report is not older than 72 hours will be required to stay in home quarantine for seven days.

This, along with the surge in Covid-19 cases in other States and partial lockdowns in some States, saw many passengers calling into cancel their travel plans, leading to airlines themselves then deciding to cancel the flight itself, sources said.

A complete picture of how many flights had to be thus cancelled would emerge after midnight, they added.
