Implement lockdown strictly: Telangana DGP to police

Hyderabad: Director General of Police M Mahendra Reddy on Wednesday directed the authorities to temporarily seize the vehicles plying on the roads during the lockdown without permission.

The DGP gave instructions while interacting with the Police Commissioners and Superintendents of Police in the districts through video conference to review the enforcement of the extended lockdown till 30 May.

He said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is reviewing the implementation of the district-wise lockdown daily.

He said that the lockdown should be enforced more strictly from now on, adding that relaxation was given from 6 am to 10 am, but most people went to the markets and shops after 8 am in large numbers to purchase essential items.

To prevent this, the police should request people to use the relaxation time from six o’clock in the morning.

Reddy said that as more people show up on the streets after 10 am, senior officials should monitor the situation from the field level from 9.45 am to ensure that no crowd is seen after 10 am.

Since the virus was more likely to spread to fish and vegetable markets, police officers should initiate measures to decentralize these markets and reduce crowd,he said.

Police patrol vehicles should visit areas of their jurisdiction and remove congestion on the roads after completion of the lockdown time at 10 am.

“The department is getting necessary support from the public and so far no complaint has been received against it,” he said.

As the government has allowed the opening of petrol filling stations across the state, only vehicle with valid passes, ambulances and oxygen transport vehicles should be allowed.
