Telangana doctor protests, asks government to fulfill promise

Hyderabad: Senior and junior doctors of Telangana government hospitals today boycotted the work as the government failed to meet their demands, which Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao did it earlier.

More than 6000 senior and junior doctors of the state, representing 15 government hospitals including Gandhi, Osmania, MGMH Warangal and others, today boycotted their duties, demanding the government to fulfill their demands immediately, failing which they will continue to be boycotted from work until the demands are fully met.

More than 5000 junior doctors and 1500 senior doctors staged a protest in front of their hospitals and demanded the government to accept their long pending demands immediately.

Speaking on this, Dr. P. Rahul President, and Dr. Srikanth Vice President, Telangana Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) said that by submitting a memorandum to the Superintendent of Osmania General Hospital, there was a 15 percent increase in stipend for post graduates and interns is demanded to be released immediately from January 2020.

Even a 15 percent increase for senior residents is pending finance approval. Dr. Rahul said that he has been striving regularly for the last 6 months to approve the increase with the officers.

“The announced 10 percent incentive for health workers has not been implemented till date,” read the JUDA notice.

The second complaint, as pointed out by the president of the association, was that health workers and their family members were unable to get beds for treatment.

Dr. Rahul said, “NIMS always have limited beds and we urge you to issue a circular for increasing bed capacity and free treatment of health workers and their family members.”

According to the letter, insurance has also been sought for medical students up to post-graduation.

“The ex-gratia amount of 50 lakhs for doctors and 25 lakhs for nurses and support staff has not been implemented till now. We will boycott the service till the demands are not met by May 25, 2021.”

The Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) had given the government two weeks to meet their demands, which have not been fulfilled till date, so senior and junior doctors boycotted the duty from today and said that they will continue to boycott duties till government considers their demand.
