After recovering from black fungus,45 patients discharged from ENT hospital

Hyderabad: Black fungus cases in Hyderabad are increasing with each passing day.However, many people are also recovering daily.

Nodal Government ENT Hospital has recently discharged 45 patients suffering from black fungus. The patients were operated on before being allowed to go home and kept in post-operative observation for 3–5 days.

Mucormicosis, also known as black fungus, is a fungal infection arising from the coronavirus. Black fungus can prove fatal for patients with low immunity and many deaths have occurred across the country so far.

However, doctors are working hard to keep matters under control and help patients recover.

Hospital resident medical officer Dr. Manish Gupta told that those discharged from ENT hospital may have to face residual problems later.

“They may have residual problems such as repeated nasal infections over a long period of time. However, some of these patients have to undergo plastic surgery after a few months to correct facial deformities due to removal of parts affected by black fungus.

According to report,ENT Hospital has so far reported around 700 cases of black fungus in patients. So far 160 surgeries have been performed in the hospital while many patients have been shifted to Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital for treatment.

More than 40 cases of black fungus are seen every day at Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital as the number is continuously increasing. Gandhi Hospital is the second nodal center for cases of black fungus where so far 206 patients have been done, out of which 14 have been operated.

We are receiving cases from different districts across the state and are in different stages. We are also seeing patients post-covid-19 who have pain in their cheeks and are suspected of having cases of mucormycosis, but They do not have it and others who come with it have eye pain but have a full blown infection inside.

We have had a few of them operated on in the last two days. In the coming days more are in the line of surgery,said gandhi hospital’s Civil Surgeon Administrator Dr. C. Narendra Kumar said.
