Hyderabad: Restoration of the historic Nampally Sarai is being taken up by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, according to Urban Development Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar.
Stating this in response to a tweet on the condition of the Sheikhpet Sarai, Arvind Kumar said the restoration of the Sheikhpet Sarai too would be looked into. Arvind Kumar’s assurance came after citizens tagged him in connection with a discussion on the condition of the Sheikhpet Sarai, urging him to intervene and take action to repair and renovate the Sarai.

“We are taking up restoration of Nampally Sarai with GHMC. Will also look into restoration of Sheikhpet Sarai,” he tweeted.
Restoration of historic structures have been going on in the city in the last few years, with Arvind Kumar himself taking the initiative to restore the Moazzam Jahi Market among others. In March this year, the Special Chief Secretary had visited the Sardar Mahal and the Nampally Sarai and announced restoration of the two structures as well.

The first to be taken up, he said then, would be the Sardar Mahal, a 121-year-old palace which once ranked high among the list of places to stop for those visiting Charminar, and later was abuzz with activity housing the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation south zone office.
