Covid19 National Omicron

Revert to Night Curfews and Containment Zone Centre Asked States.

New Delhi : The Centre Government on Tuesday asked states to impose night curfew and strictly regulate large gatherings amid a surge in cases of the Omicron Covid19 variant in different parts of the country. The Advice comes a day after the World Health Organization (WHO) warned that increased social mixing over the holiday period in many countries would lead to a spike in cases, overwhelm health systems and result in more deaths.

Rajesh Bhushan, Union health secretary, urged states to cut the number of people attending marriage and funerals and restrict numbers in offices, industries and public transport. Bhushan said that Omicron is at least three times more transmissible than the Delta strain based on current scientific evidence.

Besides, the Delta is still present in different parts of the country. Hence, even greater foresight, data analysis, dynamic decision making and strict and prompt containment action is required at the local and district level. The decision making at the state/UT and district level must be very prompt and focused,” said Bhushan.
