People of Telangana have to Pay More for Electricity Bills.

Hyderabad : Power Consumers in Telangana will have to Pay more towards electricity bills Starting from April 2022 with Telangana Southern Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TSSPDCL) and Telangana Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSNPDCL) seeking to increase 50 paise per unit for low tension (LT) domestic consumers and Re 1 per unit for all other categories, including LT commercial and high tension (LT) consumers.

For Example, consumers who have been paying about Rs 350 a month for utilising 100 units a month will now have to pay Rs 400, including service charges, etc. Similarly, power users consuming 200 units a month will have to pay Rs 500 a month.

Proposed power tariff is very less and not going to impose heavy burden on the consumers. The minimum hike that we proposed is going to be effective after five years,” TSSDCL chairman and managing director G Raghuma Reddy.

According to discoms they were compelled to increase the power tariff due to Covid19 pandemic and increased cost of power generation and imposition of cess by the Centre. “Clean energy cess has been increased to Rs 400 per tonne from earlier Rs 50 per tonne. Similarly, coal cost has gone up by about Rs 800 per tonne. The hike in railway freight charges is up by 40% in the past four years. Fuel charges have also gone up,” the discoms said.
