price of mangoes likely to increase

Hyderabad: The price of mangoes in the city markets is likely to increase due to lack of supply.

Kothapet market, which earlier used to get 5000 quintals of mangoes, is now getting only 2500-3000 quintals per day.

Pravin Reddy, secretary of the Agricultural Market Committee of Kothapet, attributed the unusual weather in Andhra Pradesh to the shortage in mango supply in Hyderabad. He said that supply is expected to improve in the month of April.
According to report, Hyderabad receives mangoes from Krishna, Khammam, Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar and Anantapur districts. The most famous varieties of fruits seen in the city are Benishan, Totapari, Himayat and Dasheri.
Due to lack of supply in Hyderabad, mangoes are being sold at a price between Rs. 150 and Rs. 200 per kilogram. Sellers expect the price of the fruit to come down at the end of April as supply is expected to improve in the next month
