Hyderabad : Telangana Highcourt on Monday provided the state four weeks time to Respond on how its police are following the method of registering zero FIRs without getting into jurisdictional tussles.

A bench Compromising of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili was hearing a PIL filed by Vijay Gopal of Forum Against Corruption urging the court to, among others, direct police to first register a zero FIR when they came across a cognizable offence.

Though the high court sought a report on the number of zero FIRs registered in the state in tune with the guidelines issued, the bench said, the state has not filed any clear material.

The bench was critical towards the state for not being able to formulate a clear method to be followed by police in the state. The bench sought a status report on these issues within four weeks.
