Covid doctors to go on strike because of non paying salary since four months

Hyderabad: About 288 senior resident (SR) doctors, who have been admitted to six major covid 19 hospitals in Telangana, have not been paid for the past four months. Most of them are senior residents of King Koti District Hospital, who have decided to go on strike from today. The protests come at a time when the risk of a second wave of epidemics is rising, and could impair public health efforts to combat the disease.

two nodal facilities for the treatment of Covid 19,king koti hospital hyderabad is one and other one is telangana institute of medical scince(TIMS).There are 95 SRs in the hospital, 61 in Osmania General Hospital, 25 in Mehboob Nagar Government Hospital, 41 in Niloufer Hospital, 45 in Chest Hospital and 21 in Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital. Not all of them have been paid since they were hired in July to increase the availability of doctors at these facilities.

In an emotional letter to the hospital superintendent, the doctors said, “Salaries and benefits to the SRs and civil assistant surgeons posted at the district hospital, King Koti, have not been paid despite repeated requests. We have food for families, to pay off debts and to run a household. Failure to do so will leave us with no choice but to boycott.

Meantime, on saturday the SR at TIMS boycotted duty on a different issue – the state government canceled the quarantine despite the Center making the provision mandatory. In a letter to the TIMs director, the SRS demanded that quarantine leaves be provided so that they could regularly isolate themselves to reduce the risk of their families being affected. This facility has 96 covid patients.
